I wanted to share with you some information about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
A common misconception is that you can simply buy SEO services and then your site will magically appear at the top of search results.
SEO is not as easy as going to your favourite shop and picking up a product off the shelves. It’s not a quick strategy.
This is more like going on a gym trip. Maybe you’re looking to lose weight or build muscle.
A single session at the gym will not make any difference. However, it will help you to take a step forward. You’ll only see a small improvement from a single session of the gym.
If you attend the gym consistently over a prolonged period of time you will notice progress. You can build muscle or lose weight by doing consistent, consistent work.
This is SEO. The first step in SEO is to develop a strategy. The strategy is then implemented over time.
A good friend of mine always tells me that consistency beats talent.
How does this relate to SEO? It comes down to practising SEO consistently. You don’t have to do this once.
Most SEOs will tell clients that it takes about 3-6months to see results.
I call it BS. It is possible to get more results quickly, but you need to be realistic about the potential results for your website.
Going back to the …. exercise example
Let’s imagine two people. Jeff has been a couch- potato his whole life. Tony, on the other hand, has been running a small amount and has taken part in an indoor soccer league.
Tony and Jeff signed up for the new gym in their locality. Can Tony and Jeff get the same results from just one month of being at the gym? No. Tony is quite fit, having done a lot of running and playing indoor soccer. This means he can achieve results much faster than Jeff.
What does all this mean for your website?
This simply means that every website has its own level of “fitness”. You must first determine how fit (or not) your website right now.
